If your child already knows how to swim, this is an enjoyable way to keep him or her motivated and fit. Our individual-centered squad focuses on stroke correction and technique, endurance and personal improvement. AUSTSWIM- and ASCTA-qualified instructors stress fun, safety and teamwork as well as the competitive aspects of squad training.

Squad members have the opportunity to compete in regular in-house Marsden Swim Squad meets, as well as international events including the All Nations Cup. Competitive open water swims are also trained for. Some of our squad swimmers were lucky enough to see Michael Phelps and the US Olympic Swim Team (see October-December 2008 newsletter) as well as the Danish Olympic Swim Team train in Singapore en route to the Beijing Olympics 2008.

Hour-long sessions are conducted at the 50-metre pool at Queenstown Swimming Complex (off Queensway) on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and at the Australian International School on Sunday mornings.

Target Time Incentive Scheme

To encourage Marsden Swim Squad members (age nine years and up) to work towards target times and be recognized once they attain them, they are awarded a colour-coded swimming cap which signifies one of three levels: Yellow (qualifying time + 15%), Red (qualifying time + 7.5%) and Blue (actual qualifying time). These times are based on the Auckland (New Zealand) Junior Age Group and Age Group Championships qualifying times. As these championships are very competitive, any swimmer who reaches the blue standard can certainly feel very proud as that is quite an accomplishment!
